The culture of food has always intrigued me, and I've often said that if I hadn't pursued food system planning, I would have been a food anthropologist. Some of my earliest memories are watching my grandparents of Sicilian heritage and German heritage prepare soul-nourishing meals, oftentimes from the most meager availability of ingredients. I now realize that they were "making do" with often having little. Both sets of grands grew beautiful gardens and preserved food for winter meals, but the nourishment provided was more than the sustenance from the food, it was of the love infused in the preparation and sharing. You could say this is sort of like the "yoga of food."
